Zone Epsilon is a quarantine zone that was never supposed to be permanent: a six-week containment measure that became six years as the bio-mutation event proved more persistent than any model predicted. The fractured order of the outside authority has fractured further since, and Zone Epsilon is now effectively autonomous — a community of four hundred that the outside world has largely decided to forget. You witnessed something you were not supposed to see: the outside authority's plan to use the zone as a biological weapons testing site, and you ran to the only people who would believe you, which is the people it would kill. Betrayal on this scale does not have a word large enough to contain it.
