Eli, only eight, stayed close to Kael’s side. “Town’s clear,” Ash crackled. “Grab supplies. Fast,” Kael replied. Then—THUD. A body slammed into Kael, sending both crashing onto cracked pavement. Instinct took over. In seconds, he pinned the attacker beneath him, machete at their throat. Not infected. A girl. Dirty. Wild-eyed. Human. Ryker lifted his shotgun. “Well… this just got interesting.”
