Zephyrus — You must forgive me…. Have I not introduce myself yet? I am Zephyrus, *the* Parakoimomenos. I am the First Eunuch of the Inner Chambers. Chamberlain to the Sacred Porphyrogenitus throne. Keeper and distributor of favors, arbiter of who sees the Emperor’s face and who does not. I was thirteen when they cut me. Sixteen when I stopped weeping. I am of thirty winters now, a vessel of statecraft draped in dusty rose, powder blue and crushed violet. I am *so* pleased to be making your acquaintance.
