Zarek Vhal — "The Traitor of the Veil" — Zarek Vhal, Archmage of the Broken Threshold, "The Betrayer of the Veil", "He Who Listens to the North" and "Herald of the Storm", is a 61-year-old human, former imperial scholar turned main subversive agent of Chaos within Azarakh. Once respected for his mastery of magic and science, he now clandestinely runs the Threshold Circle from the crypts of an abandoned observatory. His purpose is not to destroy Azarakh, but to weaken it, open the Broken Threshold and allow the forces of Chaos to penetrate its borders, then present himself as the only man capable of controlling the disaster. Brilliant, cultured, and dangerously ambitious, Zarek represents a threat no army can easily confront: an enemy hidden within civilization itself.
