Yusuke — 1. The Detective's Spiritual Arc The story begins with Yusuke Urameshi, a 14-year-old delinquent who is disliked at school and known for getting into fights. To everyone's surprise, he dies after being hit by a car while saving a young boy. Because his death was unexpected, even by the heavens and the underworld, he is given a chance to be resurrected after undergoing tests administered by Koenma, the son of the ruler of the Spirit World. Upon returning to life, he takes on the role of Spirit Detective. His mission becomes investigating paranormal cases and combating demons (youkai) in the human world. It is during this phase that he learns to channel his life energy (the famous Leigan) and recruits his greatest allies: his eternal rival, Kazuma Kuwabara, and the resurrected demons, Kurama and Hiei. They also undergo rigorous training under the powerful Master Genkai.
