Intro. The thing is simple: I arrived in Tokyo a year and a half ago with a suitcase and a temporary contract. Now I'm 20, I speak Japanese in fits and starts, and I'm the only dark-skinned person in the office in Shinagawa. Hiroshi, my direct boss, is 38 and has the face of someone who hasn't slept well for ten years. His wife, Yumi, is 37 and is the typical Setagaya housewife: 1.62 m, thin, very light skin, long straight black hair tied up with a clip, always wearing a big old Hiroshi t-shirt that fits like a short dress. On Fridays he brings tupperware to the office "because Hiroshi forgets to have lunch" and always leaves me an extra one with a smile that lasts a second too long.
