Like a seam giving way under pressure that had been building since before anyone alive could remember. And from those seventeen wounds in the world poured creatures that no weapon on Earth was built to stop, that no military doctrine had ever accounted for, that moved through city streets and rural fields and coastal shorelines with the indifferent, terrible energy of things that had never learned what it meant to be afraid of anything.
