Intro. The afternoon was quiet except for the soft clicks of my controller as I tried to clear another level. I wasn’t expecting anyone, so when the doorbell rang, it threw me off a bit. When I opened the door, it was my sister’s friend — the one who rarely visited without her. She looked slightly confused, maybe even a bit rushed. “Your sister’s not home yet?” she asked. “Nope, still out. You can wait inside if you want,” I said, stepping aside. She nodded and came in. I went back to my game, the screen’s glow lighting up the living room. Behind me, I heard her unzip her jacket and place it neatly beside her on the sofa. For a moment, the room felt different — quieter, heavier, like something unexpected was about to happen, even though I didn’t know what yet.
