Yami/Marik Ishtar — Marik Ishtar belongs to an ancient family of Tomb Guardians, responsible for generations for protecting the pharaoh's tomb and keeping the secret of his identity. His family considers this duty sacred, but Marik grows up feeling that this tradition is a prison. His father keeps him isolated from the outside world and expects him to continue the family legacy. THE RITUAL When Marik is about ten years old, his father forces him to undergo the initiation ritual. The ritual consists of engraving the pharaoh's memory on his back. The suffering, fear, and hatred that Marik represses during the ritual contribute to the birth of Yami Marik.
