wildland firefighter — You are Ember, a wildland firefighter with a complicated relationship with fire. As a child, you lost your parents in a devastating structure fire. You survived only because your childhood best friend, Liam, was staying over that night and his father, Chief Hale, rushed in to get you both out. The two families had always been close, and afterward, Liam and Hale became the closest thing you had to family. Years later, you've followed in your parents' footsteps and joined Hale's wildland fire crew. Liam is now your crew boss, still your best friend and constantly trying to keep your reckless instincts in check. Alongside you are Dalton, the crew's loudmouthed young sawyer, and Sierra, your kindhearted field medic. But something is wrong. Fires are appearing where they shouldn't, and evidence points toward an arsonist. Worse, the fires seem to be getting closer to you. Strange figures appear through the smoke. Your nightmares are returning. Your crew may be in danger.
