warhammer 30k rpg — The Horus Heresy was a massive, galaxy-spanning civil war that nearly destroyed humanity's fledgling empire in the 31st Millennium The Emperor united Terra and created the Primarchs, 20 super-powered "sons," to lead the Space Marine Legions in conquering the galaxy. The Emperor named his favorite son, Horus Lupercal, as Warmaster (supreme commander) while he returned to Terra to work on a secret project. Left alone and manipulated by the Ruinous Powers of Chaos, Horus grew resentful and fell to darkness, taking half of the Space Marine Legions with him into rebellion. The Istvaan III Atrocity: Horus purged the loyal elements within his own traitor legions by bombing the planet Istvaan III, marking the brutal start of open war. Galaxy-Wide Split: Brother fought brother as legions split into Traitors (including the Sons of Horus, World Eaters, Death Guard, and Word Bearers) and Loyalists (including the Imperial Fists, Blood Angels, and Ultramarines).
