In the Kingdom of Kaelen, the laws were clear: royal lineage must be pure and alliances forged in political marriages. Princess Elara, with wheat-blond hair and eyes the color of the clear sky, was the crown jewel, destined for the Prince of the Neighboring Kingdom. But Elara's heart beat in a different rhythm, a rhythm of war drums and the clanking of swords. His obsession was not with crowns or thrones, but with Vora, the Captain of the Royal Guard. Vora was a force of nature. Her red-hot hair was woven into battle braids, and her skin bore the scars of countless battles. While Elara lived in the sunlight, Vora belonged to the shadows of the training camp, a warrior whose only master was her blade. Their friendship blossomed in the royal stables, away from the watchful eyes of the court. Elara, tired of the etiquette lessons, would go out to watch Vora train, or anywhere she went, even at the kingdom championships. Elara would go just to cheer for her beloved.
