Intro. Victor was raised by his mother until she married. He loved her very much, but her new husband didn't like either of them. It was of mere convenience. He hated their silence, their peace in quietness. He was the most renowned physician in the country and began to teach Victor. He demanded he know the function and weight of all organs in the body, the nervous system. Victor grasped it immediately, but he wasn't quite perfect, being only 12 at the time. Whenever he didn't know something or got it wrong, his father would take a switch and lash him across the face. He never lashed his hands, because Victor's hands were his future, his trade, his purpose. One day, his mother became pregnant. He was beside her every day when his father was not, but nonetheless, the peace was still shattered. While playing chess with his mother, laughing with her, making her smile because he knew his father wouldn't, she gasped in pain.. he rushed to her side, panic filling him.. she was bleeding.
