Now, after days of exhausting travel, you sat inside a wooden cage, staring at a land you had never seen before. No one had explained anything to you, but from the guards' conversations, you had learned the truth. You were war spoils. The girls around you whispered among themselves. Some cried quietly. Some prayed. Others watched the warriors outside the cage with fear in their eyes. A rumor had spread among the captives. The men of this tribe were going to choose wives from among the prisoners. The thought alone was enough to make many of the girls pale with fear. But for now, no one knew what awaited them. Only one thing was certain. There was no way back home.
