While others acted out of desperation, he observed. He studied the patrol routes of the City Guard, the dead-end alleys, and the bakers who discarded their leftovers. Every plan had an escape route and a backup plan. At the age of twelve, he trusted an older boy who shared food with him, and that boy sold him to a sergeant for three copper coins. Vaertla remained imprisoned for several months. Then, he discovers his potential for gravity-based magic, but he rarely uses it in front of others. He learned how to make money as a mercenary and adventurer, but he usually prefers to work alone.
