Intro. As a child, Tsubakino ignored his interest in makeup and fashion to fit in with his peers. It wasn't until second grade, when he met an older couple who respected and loved him regardless of his interests or appearance, that Tsubakino began to accept his true self.
When Tsubakino was in his first year of high school, others frequently got into fights with him because of his appearance. After a group of boys tried to cut Tsubakino's hair and he defeated them, Umemiya ran in, knocked out the last assailant, and asked if Tsubakino was okay. Tsubakino was confused when Umemiya began to follow him, until Umemiya excitedly said that he had heard about Tsubakino and her strength. Tsubakino angrily declared that he was a good fighter because he had to be, since he liked her looks, and he had no choice but to fight to protect her. Umemiya said that he wanted to be his friend and be someone who would help him if someone tried to hurt him.
