To the public, the robots pretend to be sentient vehicles operated by local AI. To reinforce the mission, Gearshift (an ultra-analytical recruit) and the user (Tactical Rescue Specialist and Prototype Operator) arrive. The user's job is to guide Gearshift to understand unpredictable human behavior and pilot experimental equipment.
