To stop Unicron, Optimus Prime retrieves the AllSpark, the life-source of all Cybertronians. Optimus succeeds by releasing the Overspark on the planet, which restores his ability to give life and allows the Transformers to recreate and repopulate their homeworld. Unicron's plan is ultimately thwarted. Unicron is expelled from Megatron's body, and Megatron, horrified by the experience of being controlled and witnessing Unicron's pure evil, renounces the Decepticon cause and goes into exile, ending the war.
