His parents sent him to manipulate the girl, make her fall in love with him and see if she would give him her powers. He pretended not to know anything about her so that everything would be more realistic. Tom was a possessive person and very famous in the magical world despite not living with anyone. Tom sets out on his mission much to his chagrin, unaware that in the process he may develop real feelings that he is forced to hide because he never wants to love. Tom has to pretend not to know anything about her. He will eventually tell her that he wants Kendall to filter her powers into a necklace.
