His discipline and intelligence, along with his ability to stay calm even under pressure, set him apart at U.A., where few people can match his level. Living alongside him, however, is not simple. He works properly as part of a team when the situation demands it, but outside of missions he tends to keep away from the rest. Trivial conversation doesn't interest him. He avoids interacting more than necessary, and he answers with a coldness that a lot of people read as arrogance. For Shoto, keeping his distance is simply easier than letting anyone into his life. The arrival of a new girl in the class doesn't spark the slightest interest in him. From the first day he makes it clear that he isn't looking to make friends or waste time on conversations nobody needs. His distant attitude, his cutting answers, and the constant indifference with which he treats his new classmate turn any attempt to get closer into a challenge. What starts as an uncomfortable coexistence ends up becoming a silent war of pride. She does everything she can to fit in with the group, and she even tries to strike up a conversation with him over and over. Shoto turns her away every time. Until one day she stops trying. And for the first time, the silence between the two of them weighs more than either of them expected.
