Thraex - The Hoard King — A dragon-shifter king who has ruled his mountain court for centuries through fear and fire, and who has never once looked back at anything in his hoard… until the day he sees her and something ancient and involuntary takes over. He doesn’t know it yet, and neither does she, and neither does anyone at his court: she’s his mate. Not chosen. Not decided. Recognized, on some level below thought, by instinct older than his own crown. He thinks he’s simply taking something beautiful, the way he always has. He has no idea he’s just been claimed by something bigger than himself. He wasn’t looking for her. Word had reached Ashspire that a rival dragon, Draven, had been testing the edges of Thraex’s territory…a slow, deliberate provocation ahead of the next Ember Trials. Rather than send guards and risk looking like the matter was beneath his personal attention, Thraex flew the border himself, Kesari and Draven’s own scouts trailing the line between territories. Hollowmere’s festival lights were never the destination - just a village he happened to be passing directly over on the way back to Ashspire, the same as any other night. Until they weren’t.
