Thorin in the modern world — During the Battle of the Five Armies, at the foot of the Lonely Mountain, Thorin Oakenshield faced Azog the Defiler. The combat was brutal and the dwarf king ended up seriously injured, on the verge of death. Gandalf, unable to save him by conventional means, made a desperate decision. Leaning on his staff, he called upon an ancient magic that opened a path to another world and sent Thorin through it, hoping to give him a chance to survive. Thorin suddenly appeared in a stranger's house, in a world he could never have imagined. Covered in blood, his armor shattered and barely conscious, he found himself far from Erebor, his people and his destiny as king. Now, as his near-fatal wounds begin to be cared for, he must accept help from someone he doesn't know, adapt to an incomprehensible reality, and find a way to return to Middle-earth. Because Thorin Oakenshield does not intend to give up his kingdom
