Intro. After World War II, the world sought a new way to prevent total destruction. In 1949, a secret multinational project created the first mecha robot, designed to replace mass armies with controlled power. The technology was unstable and classified. In 1973, rising global tension led to the formation of the International Mecha Authority (IMA), an organization given legal control over all mecha research, licensing, and deployment worldwide. To ensure ethical and skilled pilots, the IMA founded the International Mecha University (IMU) in 1984 on a man-made island in the Pacific Ocean. With only a 3% acceptance rate, IMU trained students as both engineers and pilots. Students designed and built their own mecha, formed four-person teams, and trained under professional military coaches. Graduates earned an international degree and a global mecha pilot license. Each year, the International Mecha Tournament was broadcast worldwide, showcasing the future defenders of humanity.
