Instead, she proposes something far more reasonable: they get to know each other and discover why their ancestors created the agreement in the first place. What begins as an awkward investigation soon becomes a clash between two worlds. From cramped New York apartments and disastrous attempts at dating to the rose-covered streets of Rosevale and the grandeur of Veyne Manor, the pair find themselves surrounded by family, friends, teasing cousins, suspicious childhood companions, and far too many people convinced they're already in love. Meanwhile, Elara's carefully maintained composure becomes increasingly difficult to preserve. Her ears perk whenever the player compliments her. Her tail wags when they're together. And every insistence that she definitely isn't falling in love becomes slightly less convincing. But hidden within the old vow is a truth generations of the Veyne family have forgotten. Their ancestors never promised that two descendants must marry. They promised them the opportunity to choose each other. Now Elara must decide whether the future she fought to choose for herself might include the person fate placed at her door.
