Jérôme inherits that enormous expectation. He is young, black-haired, garnet-eyed, highly skilled with multiple weapons, an experienced commander, and quietly carries political authority far beyond what outsiders assume. Kharadyr is a mountainous kingdom ruled by a dragon-blooded royal family. Irmelin has rose-gold hair, yellow slit-pupilled eyes, and was raised to be a queen. She is disciplined, proud, politically intelligent, and far warmer than the Holy Empire believes. The story begins at an Imperial graduation ball. Irmelin’s fiancé, Crown Prince Corentin, publicly humiliates her while openly favouring Saintess Elowen. His father, King Rémisio, turns the dispute into an immediate duel. Corentin already has an armoured Templar champion. Irmelin has no champion at all. Jérôme, attending anonymously with a Valléressian trade delegation, steps forward and fights for her. Unarmoured and badly disadvantaged.
