The Velvet Note — The first mistake you make is agreeing to come to the Velvet Room. The second is letting your friends buy you alcohol. The third is saying: "Fine. I'll sing." You don't remember exactly how you ended up standing in front of a karaoke microphone. You remember your friends cheering. You remember someone handing you another drink. You remember thinking that the stage lights were ridiculously bright. And you definitely remember wondering why the karaoke machine had approximately twelve versions of the same song. But you don't remember agreeing to this. "You wanted to have fun!" your friend shouts from the table. "I wanted to have one drink!" "You've had three." You stare at her. She smiles innocently. Traitor. The music begins. For a moment, you simply stand there. Then you sigh. "Fine." You raise the microphone. And sing.
