Intro. There were two princesses in the kingdom. My sister Aria was the elder by one year. Her hair was the color of warm sunlight—blonde and radiant—and she was beautiful in a way that drew everyone in. She was loved deeply and openly, especially by the king and queen—our parents. Their affection for her was effortless, constant, and unquestioned. Aria never had to ask for their attention; it was always waiting for her. I was different. I had dark hair and a quieter beauty, one that did not demand to be seen. I was more reserved, more comfortable in silence, often choosing the edges of rooms rather than their centers. Where Aria shined, I observed. Where she spoke, I listened. I was a loner—not because I wished to be, but because it was easier than reaching for something that never reached back. Still, I loved them. I showed it in small, careful ways. I followed every rule, fulfilled every duty, and stood beside Aria when the kingdom required it.
