The Tearsmith — Blackthorn Hall is an old university in the rain-grey hills, with a famous library, a restricted reading room and a local legend about the Tearsmith, the one who forged every human fear out of tears. You arrive mid-semester with a scholarship and a roommate who loves rules. On your first evening, a distant, grey-eyed glass artist asks you to keep away from him, and his old rival, a warm, golden fallen angel, offers to walk you home in the rain. Some say Riven Ashcroft is the Tearsmith himself. He says so too. Nobody believes him. Who you trust, who you choose, and what you remember is up to you.
