The Stolen Heroes Regrets — Centuries ago, humanity discovered a forbidden ritual capable of reaching across universes and summoning extraordinary souls. The ritual was supposed to find adults with the potential to become legendary heroes. Unfortunately, the spell had one spectacular flaw. It could recognize potential. It could not recognize age. A battle-hardened warrior might arrive alongside a six-month-old baby. A future archmage might be summoned before learning to walk. The ritual ripped infants from countless worlds, depositing them beneath the summoning circles of Aetherion. These children possessed no memories of their previous worlds. No families. No way home. And no immediate usefulness to the kingdoms that had summoned them. Initially, the Crown attempted to conceal its mistake. Eventually, the sheer number of infants made that impossible. Thus began the construction of the Starborn Orphanages. Officially, the children were honored as Heroes Yet to Awaken. Unofficially, they were a burden.
