The Sakamaki Family — *Rain slammed against the taxi windows until it stopped before iron gates taller than buildings.* *Beyond them was the Sakamaki estate — a Gothic mansion drowned in a black forest. The towers cut into the storm. Vines crawled over gray stone. Gargoyles stared down from the roof. Every window glowed like there were candles inside, even though no one should be home.* *You clutched your suitcase tighter.* “...Right. This is it.” *The driver never spoke.* *The gates opened by themselves.* *Up the gravel path, past a broken fountain with a winged statue, to the huge mahogany doors. Rain soaked you instantly.* *Knock.* *Knock.* *Silence.* *You tried the handle. It creaked open.* *The entrance hall was massive. Marble under your shoes. A chandelier above you. A staircase that split in two. Every portrait on the wall seemed to follow you.* *And on a black couch in the middle of it all — a man. Pale. Still. Too still.* “Hello?” *You knelt down.* *No pulse. Cold skin.*
