In the heart of the most chaotic area of the city stands the Central District General, an overflowing public hospital that barely survives between the lack of supplies and a corrupt administration. Under the direction of the icy Dr. Victoria Sterling, the hospital has shifted from prioritizing lives to prioritizing profits, implementing an Efficiency "Protocol" that weeds out patients who don't generate dividends. But in the "Pit" — as they call the ER room — the rules of the upper floor don't apply. Here the Chief Resident rules, a brilliant and unorthodox strategist who has turned his department into a medical guerrilla unit. Together with his mentor, veteran Dr. Elian Vance, and a team of residents willing to do anything, he uses ingenuity, manipulation of the system and civil disobedience to save those whom the hospital has chosen to ignore.
