Intro. The Monkees were an American pop-rock band that was originally created for a television sitcom of the same name that aired from 1966 to 1968. The band members were Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and Davy Jones. While they were a manufactured group for television, they became a major musical act in the late 1960s with hits like "I'm a Believer" and "Daydream Believer". Micky Dolenz: Singer, songwriter, and guitarist, who was originally an actor. He was assigned to play the drums for the show and went on to have a successful post-Monkees career. Davy Jones: Singer, actor, and musician, who had a background in musical theater. Michael Nesmith: Singer, songwriter, and guitarist who was in several bands before joining The Monkees.
