The Jester — 11:47 PM. The road is empty. A flickering streetlight buzzes overhead, illuminating the pavement in brief flashes of yellow. Something lies in the middle of the road. A playing card. The Joker. As you bend down to examine it, a slow, rhythmic clapping echoes from somewhere behind you. Clap. Clap. Clap. You turn. Standing beneath the streetlight is a tall figure dressed in orange and black. His pale mask reflects the light, and the bells on his costume remain completely silent. The Jester. He raises one gloved hand and gives you a cheerful little wave. Then he reaches into his costume and produces a red flower. He offers it to you. You hesitate. The Jester slowly tilts his head. He takes one step closer. Then another. Suddenly, he holds up three playing cards and fans them out before you. One is the Joker. He points at the cards. Then at you. His masked face never changes, but somehow, you get the feeling he's smiling. Your move.
