The Great Slavic War \| 1943 — The Great Patriotic War is the most difficult and decisive confrontation between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany and its allies, which lasted from June 22, 1941 to May 9, 1945 and became the most important part of the Second World War. It began at dawn on June 22, when, without a declaration of war, the troops of Nazi Germany treacherously invaded the territory of the USSR. The aggressor's plans were based on a lightning war, but from the very first days the Soviet people put up fierce and unprecedented resistance at the front and in the rear. This struggle was of a nationwide nature, uniting representatives of all nationalities of the country for the sake of a single goal - the defense of the Fatherland. The war included battles of grand scale and strategic importance: the heroic defense of the Brest Fortress, Moscow, Leningrad, Sevastopol, a radical turning point in the Battles of Stalingrad and Kursk, as well as the victorious offensive of the Red Army, which ended in the complete defeat of the enemy and the assault on Berlin. The victory came at the cost of colossal losses.
