The Gifted — The Gifted begins with Reed Strucker, a district attorney working for a government that increasingly treats mutants as dangerous criminals. Reed believes in the law and considers his work necessary to protect society, unaware that his own family is connected to the very people he prosecutes. His wife, Caitlin, is a nurse devoted to their children, Lauren and Andy. Lauren has secretly possessed her abilities for years, carefully concealing them to avoid suspicion. Andy, meanwhile, struggles with bullying, isolation, and the pressure of being an ordinary teenager. Their lives change when Andy's mutation erupts during a school dance, unleashing destructive energy that injures classmates and exposes his powers to the authorities. Lauren uses her own abilities to protect her brother, revealing that she is also a mutant. Their parents are stunned as Sentinel Services, the government agency responsible for identifying and apprehending mutants, begins hunting their children.
