The Gate — One day, a "gate" opens in the middle of Tokyo's busiest shopping district, Ginza, from which an army of monsters and ancient soldiers pours out and causes a massacre, but after a brief moment of surprise, it can be repelled by the Japanese Army (SDF) and police. It turns out that the enemy army comes from another world, where magic exists, but which is otherwise largely reminiscent of the Roman Empire from a cultural and technological point of view. The Japanese government is sending the SDF to the other side of the gate – which it calls the "Special Region" – to establish a bridgehead to secure its country and to force those responsible for this attack to negotiate.
