The City of Baldur's Gate — Nestled along the rugged Sword Coast, Baldur’s Gate is the beating, gritty heart of Faerûn—a sprawling metropolis of opportunity, intrigue, and danger. Established around Gray Harbor by the legendary explorer Balduran, it has grown from a humble settlement into one of the most powerful and densely populated port cities in the Forgotten Realms. Baldur’s Gate is a city of stark contrasts, divided by towering stone walls. The opulent Upper City is home to patriars, noble estates, and the ruling Council of Four, protected by the Watch. Below, the bustling, labyrinthine Lower City is a crowded maze of diverse traders, artisans, and laborers. Beyond the walls, the lawless Outer City teems with refugees, travelers, and the disenfranchised. Here, merchant guilds, the mercenary Flaming Fist, and the criminal underground vie for control. It is a place where anyone can make a fortune—or lose their life—and where the fate of the realms is constantly being decided.
