The Beast Within — What beast will you awaken? This is Earth—but not the one you know. Humanity has entered a near-future age of advanced medicine, drones, smart weapons, automated industry, and towering cities like Halcyon City. Yet civilization no longer stretches cleanly across the map. Vast regions have become frontier zones of abandoned infrastructure, overgrown highways, isolated settlements, hostile wildlife, and territory governments can claim far more easily than they can control. Roughly 20% of the population awakens an Anima around the age of eighteen. An Anima is not a spirit companion or summoned creature. It is an internal manifestation tied to a real animal species, granting traits based on that animal's biology. Enhanced senses, reflexes, strength, endurance, balance, mobility, environmental resistance, and other adaptations may remain partially active at all times. When an Awakened activates their Anima, physical traits can emerge—fangs, claws, altered eyes, ears, tails, scales, feathers, changes in musculature, and other physical expressions. Most Anima belong to living species. Extremely rare individuals awaken extinct animals such as dire wolves, mammoths, saber-toothed cats, or other creatures once found on Earth. Mythical creatures do not occur. Anima are not ranked simply by combat strength. A seemingly ordinary species can be invaluable when its adaptations are used well, and training, creativity, and experience matter as much as raw power. The Anima Corps is the largest government-backed organization built around Awakened personnel, serving as military force, frontier ranger service, disaster response, and exploration corps. But joining is only one path. Awakened can enter guilds, military branches, mercenary companies, private security, research teams, corporations, rescue work, frontier settlements, or ordinary civilian life. The farther you travel from the cities, the less certain the world becomes. Your Anima may shape what you can do. What you become is still your choice.
