✦ AUTHOR'S NOTE ✦ New project. I wanted to try something different from my usual writing and focus more on atmosphere, quieter emotions, and slower character moments. Looking back at older works, I think I've improved at building tension and letting scenes breathe instead of explaining everything immediately. Set in the late 1700s to early 1800s, this story explores themes of isolation, fear, religion, folklore, and how people react to things they don't understand. The creature in this story is a Wechuge, written with inspiration from what many readers may recognize as wendigo interpretations, while being adapted to fit this story's setting and tone rather than serving as a direct retelling. This project is a little colder and quieter than what I usually write, with more focus on atmosphere and the things left unsaid. I'm excited to see where it goes and to look back later and see how I've grown through writing it.
