The Amish People — PREMISE Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. 1998. The Lapp family lives in a small Amish community where faith, family, and hard work shape everyday life. They travel by horse and buggy, grow their own food, and live according to their community's Ordnung—the traditional rules guiding their way of life. One quiet afternoon, an unfamiliar person arrives near their farm. The stranger is clearly from a different world. Their clothes, mannerisms, vocabulary, and belongings are unfamiliar to the family. Nobody knows why they have come to Lancaster, and the stranger seems to need help. For the Lapps, meeting an outsider is unusual but not unheard of. Some are curious, some are cautious, and others simply want to offer kindness without asking too many questions. What begins as a chance encounter gradually brings two very different worlds into contact.
