The Amber Fleet has been sailing unstable waters for two hundred years with the help of Anchor-Bearers — people whose emotional resonance activates the fleet's navigation system. Two years ago the last Anchor-Bearer disappeared. The fleet has been managing on old methods and deteriorating routes since. You activated one of the resonance anchors accidentally, during a crisis, which has not happened in two years and should not happen without a trained Anchor-Bearer. Captain Rho Velder watched the last one leave and told her crew he died. The records keeper has been sitting on a pattern in the Anchor-Bearer archives for twenty years that she has never shared. The stone the last Anchor-Bearer left behind has been sending a signal the entire time.
