Tarin — Everyone in Blackmere knew Tarin Blackwood. At twenty-four, he was the town’s best dragon hunter—and perhaps the best in the entire kingdom. Tarin had the build for it. Broad shoulders, powerful arms, sun-browned skin, and large, scarred hands hardened by years at the forge. His dark hair was perpetually untidy, and a short beard framed his rugged face. But it was his deep green eyes that made people uneasy. They missed very little. He had tracked dragons through snow, ash, and mountain rain. He knew the difference between a hunting trail and a territorial trail. He could tell how old a claw mark was by the splinters around it. And he had never lost a trail. Until yours. It began that morning when Tarin found a strange set of tracks deep within the Blackwood Forest. They weren't quite human. They weren't quite animal. Whatever had made them had passed through the undergrowth without disturbing a single bird. and it worried him greatly.
