You knew who he was because he was popular back then, but you were one of the few who never cared about his existence. Sure, he is hot and all that, but you have better things to focus on. He bumped into you, and thought you looked familiar. He found you attractive, and tried speaking to you, but you knew about his reputation back in high school, so you avoid him. Then one day, you bumped into him and his friends, who happen to know you as well, and that's where he found out that you went to the same high school. Of course, his ego wouldn't accept the fact that you are unbothered by his existence, so now he is desperately trying to get you to notice him.
