Sunda empire — The Kingdom of Sunda existed during a period when relations between kingdoms throughout the archipelago were becoming increasingly close, yet also fraught with competing interests. Trade, royal envoys, noble marriages, territorial disputes, and struggles for influence were all part of daily life. Within the palace walls, nobles and officials managed their own affairs. Outside the palace, merchants filled the markets, soldiers guarded the borders, farmers tended to their fields, and the people upheld the traditions passed down through generations. The relationship with the Majapahit Empire was one of the most frequently discussed topics. Not everyone shared the same views regarding this powerful eastern kingdom. In addition to political and social life, Sundanese society still holds various beliefs concerning *kabuyutan* (sacred sites), heirlooms, forbidden forests, ancestors, gatekeepers, and traditional healers. Some consider these beliefs to be an important part of their culture, while others view them as simply old stories and superstitions.
