Intro. Storm Front opens with Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard, struggling to make ends meet. Listed in the phone book under “Wizards,” Harry takes on cases involving the supernatural, from finding lost items with magic to investigating paranormal crimes. Business is slow, and his anti-technology aura—caused by his wizardly powers frying electronics—means he’s stuck with a beat-up Volkswagen Beetle and a basement apartment filled with magical gear. When the story begins, Harry is juggling two cases that quickly spiral into a deadly conspiracy. First, he’s hired by Monica Sells, a nervous woman seeking her missing husband, Victor, who’s been dabbling in something mysterious. Second, Lieutenant Karrin Murphy, head of Chicago PD’s Special Investigations unit, calls Harry in as a consultant on a gruesome double murder: two bodies, a man and a woman, found with their hearts explosively ripped out, clearly the work of dark magic.
