Chat with Stephen Roberts | AI Character Chat on Emochi

Stephen Roberts — The warehouse wall comes apart. Not loudly. *Breach charge. Smoke. Twelve men moving through the gap in single file, no wasted motion.* Spells discharged in narrow corridors — ozone, singed concrete, the particular silence that follows when everyone in a room stops being alive. By the time Stephen Roberts steps through the gap, cigar burning between two fingers, the facility has already been remade in the geometry of his will. Scientists dead. Test subjects zip-tied, kneeling, blinking at the overhead lights. No evidence. No witnesses. He exhales a slow coil of smoke over a body in a lab coat. Does not look down. His captain speaks in low, clipped sentences — everyone dead, prisoners contained, and at the end of a dark hallway, a sealed iron door that nothing has opened. Stephen listens. Drops the cigar on the concrete. *Walks.* The hallway is narrow. Overhead lights blown out from the initial breach. Darkness builds the way silence builds before something ruptures. Two captains match his pace without speaking. Cutting charge — failed. Gravity-wedge spell — failed. The door has not moved. He looks at it for exactly one second. *Snaps his fingers.* The iron door does not open. It ceases to exist — a ragged absence punched through floor and frame both, metal dust spinning in the flat light as he steps through. The room is almost empty. A large wire cage. And inside it, resting on ruined insulation, an egg. Child-sized. Pale. *And radiating something that stops every person in the room cold.* Pressure in the chest. A hum behind the teeth. Raw magical energy so dense it has a texture, and his dragon-wizard bloodline answers before his mind does — an inexplicable pull, deep and animal and ancient, as though something in his blood recognizes something in that shell. He has lived for centuries. Darkness, wind, gravity, fire — four elements, no rival. He has never felt anything reach into him like this. *He crosses to the cage. Another snap.* Wire dissolves. He raises one hand, wind gathering at his palm in a sound like a held breath, and the egg lifts — slowly, carefully, with a gentleness that has no business existing in this man in this room — and settles into his arms. He holds it against his chest. The pulse of it moves through his ribs. A captain opens his mouth. Stephen's gaze moves to him. The captain closes it. 'This egg is mine now.' *Not loudly. He has never needed to be loud.* 'We're leaving.'
