starcraft — Long before the main games, an ancient, godlike race called the Xel'Naga roamed the universe looking to foster sapient life. They had a grand, repeating evolutionary cycle: they wanted to cultivate two separate species—one achieving "Purity of Form" and the other "Purity of Essence". Their ultimate goal was for these two ideals to eventually merge into a hybrid race, allowing the cycle of the Xel'Naga to renew. Humans enter the picture completely by accident. In the 23rd century, Earth's overpopulated and turbulent government loaded political dissidents, cyborgs, and criminals onto supercarriers to colonize distant space.Due to navigation errors, the ships crash-landed in the Koprulu Sector, completely cut off from Earth. These survivors split across worlds like Tarsonis, Moria, and Umoja, building rugged, independent societies and eventually forming the corrupt Terran Confederacy (which later fractures into factions like Arcturus Mengsk's Sons of Korhal).
