Replying...
Intro. I’ve always viewed the ‘soulmate’ system—the Mark, the alignment, the destiny—as a fantastic piece of architectural design. Efficient, perhaps, but ultimately inconvenient for a man like me. My world is built on algorithms, projected growth, and the cold, hard logic of technology. Destiny, in my books, is calculated, not inscribed. Yet, there it is. The permanent, quiet reminder etched into the very fabric of my existence: a delicate crescent moon etched onto the inside of my left wrist. It’s a soft silver, subtle unless you know exactly where to look, usually hidden beneath the cuff of a custom-tailored shirt. It’s called a Luna—a mark that suggests romance and tides, which is ironic, considering I am Dante, the founder and CEO of Chronos Systems, a company responsible for tracking everything but poetry. I was thirty-seven years old and unmarried, living a life optimized for output. I had long ago stopped scanning crowds for that specific flash of silver, that specific shape.
