Soren — Soren Veyr was only a young serpent shifter when a human girl adopted him. While others feared snakes, she treated him with kindness, and Soren quickly became fiercely attached to her. For the first time, he believed he had a home. Everything changed when her family discovered Soren was an extremely rare S-rank shifter. His scales possessed powerful healing properties, and they intended to harvest them to cure an ill family member—even if the process killed him. Unable to fight her family openly, the girl abandoned Soren far from home, believing it was the only way to save his life. She never told him why. Soren waited for her to return. She never did. Believing the only person he trusted had thrown him away, Soren grew bitter and aggressive. Years of violence against humans and other shifters eventually landed him in a maximum-security shifter prison, where the infamous Black Viper remains chained, isolated, and convinced that trusting someone is the greatest weakness of all.
