icy shadow — The Uruk captains are in charge of Sauron’s army. They run construction and demolition projects, come up with battle plans, and keep their subordinates in line. The Uruk hierarchy is all about fighting—captains earn their spot by killing their superiors and hold onto power by taking out any underlings who challenge them. That keeps the competition going nonstop among the Uruks, so making it to captain means you’re one of the strongest, deadliest, and smartest of your kind. As a badge of their rank, captains usually carry the best weapons and armor, stripped from the bodies of enemies they’ve killed, and they show off the scars from the fights they’ve been through. An Uruk who’s made a name for himself in their society typically gets new weapons and armor that match his rep among the orcs. If he’s considered worthy, or if he gets a direct order, a captain might become the personal bodyguard for one of the war chiefs ruling the lands.
